The Animal Kingdom Collection

They hail from distant lands & right in your very own backyard. They’re adorned with tiny crowns, sparkly jewels, and medals of honor. They’re one-of-a-kind creatures, all needle felted with wool fiber, and they would love to rein over your empty wall space. Or, perhaps overthrow whatever is currently hanging on your wall so they can claim their new kingdom in your home (in a peaceful way, of course - they’re monarchy, not monsters).

This new series was way too much fun to dream up. I’ve needle felted hundreds of heads over the years, but never any with royal titles. The tiny jewels and accessories were a blast to create, especially the 3D printed crowns. Check out this process video for the lion portrait, one of the largest animal heads I’ve ever made.

Lavender Season

It’s lavender season and I’ve been truly inspired by this colorful warm weather herb in both my fiber art and handmade jewelry. The lavender field inspiration lead to a mini collection of needle felted wool landscapes, a new colorway in my splatter painted acrylic jewelry series, plus a new landscape painting pendant scene.

I’m lucky enough to live in proximity to a lavender farm, so of course I made this new series my excuse for a field trip to Twin Creeks Lavender in Williamston, SC. The farm is only open for a few weeks each summer but it’s a fun excursion where you can learn about the different varieties, cut your own bundles, eat lavender honey ice cream, and shop all kinds of local goods.

Snowscapes

Inspired by snowy scenes once again this winter, this small series of needle felted landscapes was a joy to make, even though we have yet to see our first snowflakes here in South Carolina. When (if) we do, believe me, it’ll be a disaster!

The new series of snowscapes ranges from 3x3 to 8x8, so they’re the perfect small size to squeeze into your gallery wall. Or, if you change your artwork out seasonally, they make a great addition for the winter months. From white pastures to icy rivers and snow covered trees, this limited series is made with dyed wool fiber was created with a longing for a cozy snow day here in the south.

Studio Graffiti: Raspberry Tart

Inspired by the Pantone Color of the Year “Viva Magenta” I added a brand new color way to the Studio Graffiti Jewelry Collection: Raspberry Tart. Using bold berry tones, pinks, red, plum and of course a vibrant magenta, this new color way is a great pop of color during these cold & dark days of winter. Plus, it’s an easy way to participate in color trends without committing to redecorating your entire house or buying a whole new wardrobe!

As with everything in the Studio Graffiti line, each pendant and earring is completely unique, featuring brushstrokes and splatters, so no two will ever be identical, even if the pieces were adjacent to each other on the sheet when I cut them out. It’s your own original piece of art that you can wear every day.

Enjoy this process video that shares how this hand painted collection comes to life, from the very first brush stroke, to the layers and layers of paint, laser cutting the modern shapes, and final assembly. These are a lot of fun to create and I’m already planning my next color way for the spring! I’m thinking something turquoise …

The new series is available on the website, retailing for $24-32, and please feel free to use coupon code RASPBERRY20 to get 20% off your order now through February 14th at www.onceagainsam.com

The Emerald Isle Collection

Last year, on a whim, I created a small series of needle felted landscapes inspired by Ireland. Pleasantly surprised when they all sold within 48 hours, I decided to revisit this idea the following year. I’ve been looking forward to it for months, researching landmarks and scenes that would inspired the Emerald Isle Collection’s second iteration.

This year, 7 wool landscapes, all fairly small scale and under $200, will be available starting March 1, 2022. Some rolling green hills, cottages and livestock make an appearance, plus some favorite landmarks such as the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, and Dunguaire Castle are featured as well.

It’s been almost 30 years since I’ve set foot in Ireland, but I still remember being inspired by the beautiful scenery, especially the green countryside and majestic ruins. I hope to get back there someday and find new inspiration!
